Welcome from two of our Year 6 Pupils

Welcome to our fabulous school, where everyone is treated equally and feels part of our school community.

Our names are Ellie and George, and we are both in Year 6. We have lots of fun things to do throughout the day and exciting lessons for you to enjoy.

In the morning, as you arrive through the gate or the office, you will receive a warm welcome. If you come through the gate, Mrs Cannon will often be there to greet you, and if you enter through the office, Mrs Mitchell will be ready to welcome you.

Throughout the day, you will make friends and have lots of fun at break and lunchtime. We have plenty of playground equipment, including skipping ropes, basketballs, footballs, tennis rackets and tennis balls. We also have some fantastic gymnastics equipment to enjoy. If you love football, don't worry! We have goals on the playground and large goals on the field where you can play matches with your friends. There is also play equipment outside where you can have fun and burn off some energy.

In school, we have lots of Chromebooks and iPads to help us learn. We use Black Belt Reader, where you can quiz on books you have read and earn stickers as you work your way through the belts. We also enjoy maths games such as Mathsframe and Times Tables Rock Stars, which help us practise our multiplication skills. Sometimes we also use fun quiz games like Kahoot to make learning exciting and interactive.

At the start of each term, you can choose to join an after-school club if you would like to. These include clubs such as netball, football, games club and more. We also have Camel Club after school for children whose parents are busy. Breakfast Club starts at 8 o'clock, where you can enjoy breakfast with your friends before the school day begins.

Our school has two libraries. In the Year 5/6 block, we have a smaller, quiet library with lots of books to enjoy. In the main school building, we have a larger library filled with interesting books for children of all ages.

On Mondays, we have an assembly with Mrs Cannon in the hall. On Fridays, we have a Praise Assembly where children receive certificates for their achievements. It is always exciting to celebrate the successes of our pupils.

All of our classes are named after beaches, such as Polzeath, Bossiney and Watergate. We also have wonderful teachers who are always happy to help. We even have a school dog called Winston, who belongs to Mrs Nayeb. At breaktimes, there is music playing and plenty of equipment for everyone to enjoy.

Our school promises are: we are safe. We are ready. We are respectful.

We would love to tell you even more about our school, but now it's time for us to go. We hope you will come and join our wonderful school community soon!

From Ellie and George (Year 6)

Welcome to Camelford Primary School.

I am incredibly proud to be Headteacher of such a special school, where every person matters. At Camelford, we want every child to feel that they belong, to know that they are valued and to be supported and challenged to become the very best version of themselves.

We are ambitious for every child. We want our pupils to achieve their full potential, develop a genuine love of learning and leave us well prepared for the next stage of their education. Just as importantly, we believe that education is about far more than academic success. We have an important role in helping children develop the character, confidence and values they need to make a positive contribution to the world around them.

Our school values of Integrity, Resilience, Aspiration and Community are at the heart of everything we do. We encourage our children to do the right thing, even when no one is watching; to persevere when things are difficult; to aim high and believe in what they can achieve; and to understand the importance of looking after one another, our community and the wider world. These values help us to develop thoughtful, responsible and compassionate young people who are ready to play their part as citizens of the future.

Alongside our values, our three school promises, ‘We are Safe’, ‘We are Ready’ and ‘We are Respectful’, provide simple, clear expectations for how we learn, behave and treat one another. Together, our values and promises create a culture in which children feel safe to take risks, learn from mistakes, celebrate success and be proud of who they are.

We want every child to look back on their time at Camelford with happy memories and a strong sense that they were known, valued and believed in. We want them to leave us confident, resilient, proud and ambitious, with a strong sense of belonging and an understanding that they can make a difference.

Our children are our greatest ambassadors and the very best way to experience what makes Camelford special is to come and see us. If you are considering Camelford for your child, or would simply like to know more about our school, I would be delighted to welcome you, show you around and introduce you to the children and adults who make our school such a wonderful place.

World Book Day

Each year, we celebrate World Book Day and promote our whole school focus:

'To foster a lifelong love of reading'.

This year, we held a competition 'Reading in Unusual Places'.

We received some amazing entries which you can view by clicking on the picture.

Thank you to everyone that took part.  We will be announcing the winners during Monday's assembly.

'I am a Cornish Child' - Learning about Diversity

Inspired by the poem, 'I am an African Child', our pupils investigated, compared and debated what it is to be Cornish.  They thought about culture, experience and perspective.  They reflected on what it means to be growing up in Cornwall in 2021 and then classes created a performance poem of their own, 'I am a Cornish Child'.  Have a listen and enjoy.

This work was part of a 3 week topic focussing on Cornwall as a sense of place and included a trip to Roughtor, an art exhibition and learning a Harry Glasson song, 'Cornwall, My Home'.  Harry visited school and inspired the children to be proud of who they are and where they come from.

SECRETARY OF STATE FOR EDUCATION PRAISES CAMELFORD COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL

Our pupils and staff are celebrating today after we received a special letter of congratulations from the Secretary of State for Education, The Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP.

The letter recognises the excellent outcomes that disadvantaged pupils across our school achieved at the end of the 2024/25 academic year, noting that our school’s performance places us among the very best nationally.

Our Headteacher, Anne Howard said:

“We don’t do what we do for recognition, but I’m really pleased that our staff have been recognised for their hard work and commitment to offering our pupils the very best education.  It is always heartening to see our efforts acknowledged at the very highest level.”

We are joined in our celebrations by six other primary and secondary schools which are part of West Country Schools Trust (WeST) who received similar praise from the Education Secretary – a sign of our group’s collective achievement and strength.

Nat Parnell, CEO at WeST, said:

"This recognition from the Secretary of State is testament to the unwavering dedication of our staff and the determination of our pupils. Across Westcountry Schools Trust, we believe that every child deserves the very best opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background. To see seven of our schools recognised among the best in the country for outcomes for disadvantaged pupils is something we are immensely proud of.

“This success belongs to the teachers, support staff, and school leaders who go above and beyond every single day to make a difference. Thank you also to our parents and families for their enduring support and whose role within our schools is so important.”

In her letter to our school, the Secretary of State for Education said:

“This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed.”
